Urban Swaras Starting Line run 617 @ Swara Stan Chart, Carnivore, Langata

What’s the one thing that we should all never lose? No, not our Garmin charger, but hope! Last week’s run at Hope Retreat Centre reminded us of this 🙂 And as we gear up for the Stan Chart Nairobi Marathon this weekend, after a one-year COVID-induced hiatus, hope is the best thing to carry you into the new week! Find below some important details for the physical and virtual runs. Big thanks to George Rutto, who in addition to bringing back a phenomenal PB from Chicago marathon, also brought us all back some American chocolates as a pre-run treat on Saturday! This Saturday we are hosting our very own Swara Stan Chart run! We will be running from Carnivore, in Langata, and following the official physical marathon route, along the Southern Bypass! So this means that all you who registered for the virtual run can still get almost the same experience as the physical marathon runners 🙂 This run will be FREE for guests, so long as you are registered for the Stan Chart virtual marathon (we will ask for proof on the day, either the email, or the t shirt https://www.nairobimarathon.com/), but also open to those who have not registered via Stan Chart – it is still a regular (albeit special) club run.

The distances will be 5, 10, 21, and 42km. Breakfast is by advance registration and payment only, so please ensure you register using the Google Form in the Starting Line and pay by Thursday 28th October to avoid disappointment. See full details in the Starting Line! https://sway.office.com/CVjtakqKJMwjYo2G?ref=Link

Those registered for the physical marathon on Sunday:

COVID vaccination/test proof: you must send to me in advance proof of at least first dose of COVID vaccine, or a negative COVID test from no more than 72 hours before the marathon. If you do not send before end of today (Monday 25th) you will also be required to carry proof of this with you on the day. Without this, you will not be able to collect your kit or take part in the marathon.

Start times: find below the start times for the various distances.

6:50 am – 21km Wheel Chair Race

7:00 am – 21km

7:15am – 42km

7:30 am – Corporate Relay

8:00 am – 10km

Route map: find the route map attached in the Starting Line, with venue floor plan. Be sure to be at Carnivore Grounds in advance of your start time, especially if you have not yet presented proof of COVID vaccination/negative test. Bibs will not be available for collection on the day.

Kit collection: Wednesday I will be stationed at Hill Park Hotel, off Bunyala Road in Upper Hill, from 6am to 6pm so you can come and collect your kits or send someone to collect on your behalf no problem. I will be working on my laptop by the pool living a life of luxury (so ask for the pool and you’ll find me)

Saturday the remaining kits will be at the Swara run at Carnivore so you can also collect then. The run will be 5, 10, 21 and 42km along the actual physical marathon route so a great chance to recce for the Sunday!

Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday I will be at my house in Embakasi for at least part of the day and kits can be collected from there as a final resort. Please message me directly for this (clairesimonebaker@gmail.com). Also inbox me for any questions not answered here.

Parking: parking will be at the Uchumi on Langata Link Road, just on the left after turning off Langata Road. Where possible, we recommend carpooling or using public means.

Other race logistics: This will be communicated on the Whatsapp groups, so if you are not on the Whatsapp groups, you can join the Noticeboard (read-only) group here: https://chat.whatsapp.com/LwPTGGOVLcKCuL89faizAV
