Urban Swaras Running Club began in 2006 with just five enthusiastic runners. What brought them together was simple — the desire to keep fit and enjoy each other's company. Every Saturday, they would gather at one of their homes, start and end their run there, and then share a hearty breakfast. This tradition created strong bonds and soon, the group began to grow.
Friends invited friends, and the Saturday runs became a weekly ritual that kept expanding. As the numbers increased, it became practical to meet at restaurants instead of homes, but the spirit of community and shared purpose remained.
With the growth came the need for identity. Inspired by the grace and speed of antelopes — and the fact that they ran in the city — the name Urban Swaras was born, symbolizing "urban antelopes."
The Urban Swaras Running Club was officially registered as a business name in 2011, and later under the Societies Act in 2021, formalizing what had grown from a small circle of friends into one of Kenya's most vibrant recreational running communities.
